 ael in New York\n\nIn October 2021\, Ambassador Asaf Zamir began his tenur
 e as Consul General of Israel in New York\, representing the State of Isra
 el to New York\, New Jersey\, Pennsylvania\, Ohio\, and Delaware.\n\nBorn 
 in 1980\, Ambassador Zamir spent his formative years living with his famil
 y in Florida\, before returning to Israel to finish his schooling. After g
 raduating from high school\, he completed his national service in the Isra
 el Defense Forces\, as part of the Central Control Unit in the Israeli Air
  Force. Upon completion of his national service\, Ambassador Zamir began h
 is higher education at Tel Aviv University\, where he received a law degre
 e.\n\nIn 2008\, Ambassador Zamir was elected Deputy Mayor of the Tel Aviv 
 City Council as part of the Rov Hair (majority of the city) party he co-fo
 unded. Subsequently\, he was re-elected to the Tel Aviv City Council in 20
 13\, where he retained his position as Deputy Mayor and assumed all respon
 sibility for the city's education system. Throughout his municipal career\
 , Ambassador Zamir promoted and implemented many programs\, including thos
 e relating to affordable housing\, public transportation\, education equal
 ity\, civil rights for minorities and the refugee community\, as well as b
 eing an advocate for the LGBTQ community in Tel Aviv-Yafo.\n\nDuring much 
 of his time on the Tel Aviv City Council\, Ambassador Zamir also chaired t
 he board of the Yehoshua Rabinovich Foundation for the Arts\, where he was
  active in supporting literature\, music\, dance\, experimental theater an
 d cinema. In 2011\, the Ambassador established the Mitpakdim Movement\, ai
 med at motivating youth to enroll as party members to all political partie
 s in Israel and promoted public awareness towards the importance of politi
 cal activity among Israeli citizens.\n\nIn 2019\, Ambassador Zamir entered
  national Israeli politics. After joining Knesset with the Blue and White 
 party and serving as Minister of Tourism\, he shifted to a diplomatic role
  and was appointed as Consul General of Israel in New York. He has served 
 in that position since October 2021.\n\nAmbassador Zamir is married to act
 ress Maya Wertheimer. Together they have one daughter\, Asia.
